  23.     -don't have to buy an animation controller
  24.     -very clean picture even with the small format
  25.     -has an internal frame buffer which provides several benefits
  26.        -  can record lightwave frames faster (once in the VCR's frame
  27.            buffer lightwave can start the next frame as the VCR does 
  28.            the preroll etc.
  29.        -  on playback can be used as a pseudo TBC so the picture is steady
  30.           enough for toaster use.
  31.     -TAO says their editizer A/B roll editor supports the 9650
  32.  
  33.   Less good.
  34.     -when using the built-in contoller insert edits are limited by the decks
  35.     software to be no more than 15 seconds in length.
  36.     -The command codes used to control the deck are criptic... I ended up
  37.      writing a couple of arexx scripts and c programs to set the start frame
  38.      etc.  It should be easier with the new lightwave which has more setup
  39.      commands built in.

  41.    tip:  don't use a serial rate of 9600 with the deck... some interaction 
  42.          between lw and the deck will cause crashes  4800 works fine

  47. You can do fine without the board when recording animations.  For the a/b roll
  48. stuff the y/c board may help the quality as you build generations.

  50. P.S. at SIGGRAPH I was sharing a booth with SANYO and got a pretty good look
  51. at their new SVHS animation deck.  Seemed to me the manual operations (e.g.,
  52. jog and shuttle) were a bit more cumbersome than with the sony but overall
  53. a solid product.  Like the sony it had a built in animation controller and
  54. as good of quality as the media allows.  The SANYO is less expensive (3K list)
  55. but not yet available (they say September).
